Kindness. It’s at the core of the HeARTs Speak mission. We bow down to it daily in our fight to create a world where all shelter animals have a chance at finding new life and love. We unite artists all across the globe who trust implicitly in its power. We extend it unconditionally and liberally to the animal welfare community and all of the people working within it. It’s our religion and our guiding light, and we know it’ll change the world.
This month, we’re setting aside the curated collection of coolness in favor of a heartfelt ode to the one and only, pure and simple, 100% concentrated kindness. It’ll always be number one on the list of What We HeART. And in honor of today, Giving Tuesday — a day for giving back to the non-profit community — it’s here to soak up the spotlight.
Do you remember your last act of kindness? Chances are you do, and that’s because it made you feel good. It’s not just happenstance that it did, either. According to Life Vest Inside, an organization dedicated to spreading kindness, both giving and receiving acts of kindness increases the production of serotonin in your brain — that’s the magical chemical that gives you feelings of happiness and relieves anxiety. Furthermore, when you witness acts of kindness, oxytocin (also know as the ‘love hormone’) increases, so upstream reciprocity benefits not just the two people engaged in the act of kindness, but everyone in its vicinity, too. That’s spreading the love wholesale, folks!
You know what else is? Our extraordinary international community of professional artists who, at last count, are contributing more than 15,000 hours of service to animal welfare organizations each month worldwide. That’s over 32,000 shelter animals getting pro portraits each month, and nearly 400,000 shelter animals impacted each year!
Join us today in saying a big ‘yes please!’ to kindness, and the power it has to save the lives of shelter pets. With your support, we can expand the reach of our artists and educational programs to more shelter animals around the world. Donate to our end-year-campaign to help us reach our goal by January 1st. Then pass it on, because when it comes to kindness, giving is just as good as getting.
