Thanks to the generous support of people and organizations that share our passion for animals, HeARTs Speak is able to provide member artists with the resources and tools they need to prioritize their work in the animal welfare community. Theresa Swain is our second featured recipient of the HeARTs Speak artist grant.
Theresa doesn’t have a studio of her own, so she takes her show on the road. She makes long trips around Calgary and surrounding areas with her traveling studio, photographing animals for her local rescue, Animal Rescue Foundation.
We checked in with Theresa to learn how her ‘Helping. Artists.’ grant had fueled her pro-bono work.
I have photographed over 50 adoptable puppies and dogs for my home rescue, Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF), and one from Ontario, for good measure.
Since I do not have a studio, I travel to various foster homes and events to take photos, and often set up the back of my SUV as a traveling photo studio for smaller pups. In the past few cold winter months I have also transported and used studio lights and some new backdrops to ARF “headquarters” for shoots.
The grant has helped tremendously with some major vehicle repairs that came up recently. I simply can’t do my volunteer work without my traveling photo studio! I’m so grateful to have received this completely unexpected bonus!”
